Then the enemy will likely be extending in a few seconds, but your laner may need to wait for the wave to crash. Is the wave crashing into the enemy tower? That is the ideal time to move for a dive, but only if you have the numbers and the tank ability to survive tower agro. The worst mistake in Solo Queue is ganking a lane where the minion wave is slow-pushing toward the enemy, because even if you secure a kill, your laner will lose three waves and the “successful” gank actually opens up a carry gap on the other side. When you see, for example, a third wave at the enemy’s outer tower with your top laner holding a slow push, you know that the enemy’s next two waves will create a bounce outward in about 30 seconds—this is the moment to path top, not while the wave is frozen under their tower. The same logic applies to mid lane: if your Orianna is shoving a stacked wave into the tower, the enemy Zed will have to choose between CS or taking a losing trade. You can wait in the side brush, not to gank immediately, but to punish the first step Zed takes to collect the shove. Good junglers do not ask “where is the enemy laner?”; they ask “where will the lane be in the next 25 seconds?” That answer is written by minions, and Challengers read it like a script.

Enemy Jungler Tracking: The Risk Matrix Behind Every Path
No gank happens in a vacuum. The enemy jungler’s location is the difference between a clean 2v1 and a counter-gank that hands over double buffs. A Challenger spends the first eight minutes of the game building a mental model of enemy pathing: which leash did the enemy go? Did they show bot in the first 90 seconds? Which camps are still up? If the enemy is a Lee Sin who started blue and you see him top side at 3:20, you know his red-side bottom camps are probably alive. So if you are hovering bot, the risk of a counter-gank is low—because Lee Sin is on the opposite half. However, if the enemy is a Fiddlesticks who loves full-clearing, the danger is not a level-three counter; it’s that he may be hiding in the bush right next to your gank lane. Time-tracking becomes your second set of eyes. When planning a gank on bot lane, check the enemy jungler’s recent CS and items. The 30-Second Rule: Thinking in Predictions, Not Reactions
Most low-elo players decide to gank by looking at the present moment: “The enemy is low, so I go.” Challengers decide based on a continuous projection, usually 30 to 40 seconds into the future. As you clear your gromp, you should be asking, “If I finish this camp and walk toward mid, what will the map look like? Will my Zed still have his combos up? Will the enemy Ahri have used her charm on a wave? But more importantly, will the enemy jungler be arriving top in that same time window?” This future-focused mindset creates what is known as the “rule of simultaneous information.” A gank is not just about the target you see; it is about three hidden variables: summoner spell cooldowns, ultimate timers, and the enemy jungler’s next respawn. Rather than pathing for a likely gank, Challenger players often path toward a probabilistic event. If top lane has no sums, and the enemy top is slowly shoving, you can confidently cover that lane while also farming Krugs—because the action is free. But if your own top lane has no flash and is overextended, then you should not go to the opposite side of the map; instead, you should mirror the enemy jungler in case of a dive. The 30-second rule also changes how you use farm. Farming is not “avoiding risk”; it is the action that generates the pressure that lets you dictate map movements. When you clear your camps in an efficient circular route, you end up next to lanes that are about to bounce. Challengers never random-path; they gank according to the sequence: clear → observe → predict → move. If the prediction says “no gank possible in the next 20 seconds,” they do not stand in a bush doing nothing—they instantly recycle to the next camp or steal the enemy’s untouched side. This constant mental clock is what makes Challengers seem psychic. In reality, they are just doing math faster. They have internalized the cost of every second, the value of every minion wave, and the danger of every unknown location. Ganking or farming stops being a dilemma the moment you treat the entire map as a system of probabilities. Choose the option with the highest expected value at the moment you reach the decision point—not one second earlier, not one second later. That split-second timing, sustained over thousands of games, is the true difference between a gold player and a Challenger.
